Weed Management Research Projects
The applied agronomic weed science research program at Penn State focuses on:
- Herbicide evaluation and weed management with herbicide tolerant crops.
- Management opportunities for herbaceous perennial broadleaves and grasses and problem annual species including quackgrass, johnsongrass, wirestem muhly, hemp dogbane, triazine-resistant lambsquarters, burcucumber, eastern black nightshade, and others.
- Effect of cover crops including cereal rye, hairy vetch, crownvetch, birdsfoot trefoil, and others on weed emergence and herbicide efficacy.
- Weed management in conservation tillage systems.
- Other issues such as weed biology and ecology and improved application technology.
Research is conducted in both field and greenhouse situations. Field research occurs in corn, soybeans, forages, and small grains at the Agronomy Research Farm at Rock Springs, the Southeastern Research and Extension Center at Landisville, or at other locations (e.g., producer’s farms) where a particular weed problem exists.
