Graduate Studies in Weed Science
Overview
A graduate program in weed science at Penn State can focus on a number of topics including:
- Management of herbaceous perennial broadleaves and grasses and problem annual species in agronomic cropping systems.
- Weed management in conservation tillage systems including cover crop management.
- Basic weed biology and ecology as it relates to management systems.
- Invasive plant species management in disturbed or natural ecosystems.
Research is conducted in both field and greenhouse situations. Field research occurs in agronomic crops of Pennsylvania at our Agronomy Research Farm near Rock Springs, the Southeastern Research and Extension Center at Landisville, or at other locations (e.g., producer’s farms) where a particular weed problem exists. Research projects have also focused on nonagricultural weed problems along roadsides and natural areas.
